Changes to Floorstock delivery charges October 2021
As many of you are already aware, the costs of transportation of goods throughout the UK and Ireland have been rising over the last 12 months, due to a combination of factors, not least due to driver shortages and the effects of Brexit and COVID-19.
Many of you I’m sure have also experienced delays, and sometimes failed deliveries from freight companies who are suffering with massively increased freight through their depots and, as a result, are causing us all headaches in delivering goods on a just in time service. Unfortunately, this applies to all of our carriers and so is an industry wide issue, rather than specific to one company.
Over the last 12 months we have tried to maintain our original delivery charges, however despite using a variety of different carriers in order to be as efficient as possible, we are now in a position where we have to review our delivery policy.
As many products used for flooring can be awkward to transport (long length flooring and trims, heavy weight items like levelling compounds, and dangerous goods such as solvent based adhesive) we are facing increasing costs in sending these types of items, with some carriers refusing to deliver certain items.
As of the 1st October 2021 the following changes will apply:
Flooring deliveries:
Our minimum free order value on flooring will rise from £500 to £1000 for mainland UK deliveries. Additional charges will apply for long length boards above 3 metres (Junckers and similar), Timed deliveries, or deliveries requiring specific requirements (small vehicles due to access etc).
Please note that flooring orders made up to the value of £1000 with accessories will still be subject to carriage charges, as it does not alter the charge from the carrier.
ADR (Dangerous goods charges)
Due to the massive increased costs of sending out dangerous goods, we now have to treat all ADR orders on an individual basis. This issue mainly affects solvent based wood flooring adhesives, but we are no longer able to absorb the costs involved in transportation.
Long Length and Heavy Weight surcharges
These charges have been implemented by our carriers due to the additional challenges in logistics. Wherever possible we will try and absorb these costs, however there may be situations where we have to pass on the surcharge due to low order values or high transport costs, which are not factored in to the cost of the materials supplied.
Overseas deliveries
As a result of the changes following Brexit, delivery of goods overseas has become slightly more challenging, with a requirement for additional paperwork to be completed prior to shipment. Once again, we must deal with carriage on a case-by-case basis.
There may also be additional delays over and above our standard next working day service.
As always, our aim is to be as competitive as possible with regard to our levels of pricing, stockholding and service, however the ongoing situation regarding transport of goods is out of our control, as is a major cause of frustration to us, as well as our customers.
We hope you understand the situation and we will continue to make every effort possible to deliver goods on time and in good condition.
